Don’t get me wrong: most of my editing services require a lot of time and focus, and my average turnaround for edits and critiques is one month. But sometimes I just love to reply to an author’s message right away with a ‘YES! That’s such a great idea, do it!’ or ‘Why not move her story goal forward and see if that helps?’ or ‘Stop right there! I know a great blog post you have to read before you write that next scene.’

That way, you can move on with your writing without waiting around for days for advice.

What can we talk about?

Absolutely anything! Well, as long as it’s vaguely about middle grade or YA books. I can help you with your first draft or manuscript revisions, we can talk about our favourite children’s books, you can check with me about middle grade publishing conventions or YA reader expectations, you can bounce story ideas off me, I can help you with a tricky scene or chapter, you can run a line or paragraph of prose by me.

It’ll be like having a children’s book editor sitting next to you while you work, but less annoying.

I won’t read or feed back on entire chapters of your manuscript (I’ve got services for that!) but I’m happy to take a look at short scenes.

Does it have to be a whole day?

Nope! If you like, you can choose a half day instead. If you live outside the GMT timezone and a 7am to 9pm day just doesn’t make sense for you, a half day might work better. Chat to me and we can work out the best timings.

Who is a WhatsApp VIP Day for?

This service is for you if:

• you write (or are thinking of writing) middle grade or YA. So if your book is for readers under 8 or over 18, I won’t have the expertise to help you
• you’re looking for general story help rather than grammar or language support. I’m a developmental editor which means I’m all about the story – character, plot, pacing, structure, etc. If you need feedback or advice on things like grammar, syntax, word choice, etc., a copyeditor or line editor would be able to help.
