Get feedback on your children’s book… from an actual child!

Book a Fox Report: a junior beta read of your manuscript by a child in your target audience!
While it’s wonderful to get feedback from adults on your children’s books, it’s also super helpful to get the opinions of readers in your target audience. Does your manuscript hold their attention? Does it feel realistic? Can they relate to the characters? Is the language and writing style too mature?
Well you’re in luck, because naturally I’m training my son up to be an editor 😂

My son, Caeden Fox (hence ‘Fox Report’!) is nearly nine and a big book lover, which makes him the perfect beta reader for middle grade stories! He particularly loves epic fantasy, humour and anything with animals, but he’s open to reading all genres. Some of his favourite books include:
- The Last Dragon
- Dog Man
- Pizza and Taco
- El Deafo
- New Kid
- The Hobbit
- The Neverending Story
- Wild Robot
- The Phoenix comics
- Donut Squad
- The Magic Faraway Tree
- Lord of the Rings

If you’d like honest, thoughtful feedback on your middle grade manuscript from an almost-nine-year-old reader, email me or fill in the contact form. You’ll receive:
- a full read of your manuscript (or partial manuscript)
- thoughtful, specific feedback via a questionnaire
- your own questions answered
- answers to one round of follow-up questions
- a mini real-time review where he’ll read the first 250 words on camera and give his immediate thoughts
Rather than just giving you vague responses, Caeden will fill in a questionnaire – guided by me – answering specific questions about your book, like ‘did you feel it started in the right place?’ and ‘which characters were your favourites and why?’
A report costs £1 per 1,000 words.
How it works
– Get in touch and tell me a bit about your book
– I’ll ask you some questions and if I feel the manuscript is suitable for junior beta reading, I’ll get you booked in
– You can send me any specific questions you’d like Caeden to answer about your story
– There is a turnaround time of one month from the project start date
– There may be a waiting list so please book in early!
– I’ll ask you to send me your manuscript before the project start date
– Caeden will read your book and answer a questionnaire with his feedback
– You can send me some follow-up questions (only one round) and I’ll ask Caeden for his response
– You will not be communicating directly with Caeden at any stage
– All contracts and payments will go through me at Writer and the Wolf
– All funds will go towards a ridiculously expensive LEGO Titanic model that Caeden wants for some reason
