My schedule for MCM London Comic Con 2023!

1024 683 Writer and the Wolf Editorial

Hands up if you’ve been to any comic conventions this year? I try and go to as many as I can, partly because I love comics – as do my husband and son – and partly because I edit comics (so the tickets are a deductible expense 😅).

This year we’re off to MCM London Comic Con again and I’ve been busy putting my schedule together so I don’t miss any gems while I’m there. The observant amongst you may notice that it’s not really possible for me to see all of these events (AND spend any time with my family) without being in two places at once so I’m going to have to make some choices on the day. If you’re going to Comic Con too, please come and say hello! Here’s where I’ll be…

12pm: Drag Queen Story Hour UK

“Drag Queen Story Hour UK provide a fun and interactive kids show hosted by an amazing and talented drag performer! Aida H Dee will be performing her very own children’s books! Are you sitting comfortably? You are? THEN GET ON YOUR FEET because it is time for Drag Queen Story Hour UK! Aida H Dee is a multi-award-winning ADHD, neurodivergent, queer hero of literature, theatre, and children’s entertainment.”

1pm: Something Thrilling This Way Comes

“Some books invite you in slowly, building worlds and concepts one brick time at time. Other books grab you by the scruff of your neck and pull you in, making you turn pages almost faster than you can read. Hear how these acclaimed authors think about setting, characters, and pacing to create thrilling tales. With Benjamin Dean (How To Die Famous), Laura Steven (The Society For Soulless Girls), William Hussey (Broken Hearts and Zombie Parts), Holly Jackson (Five Survive), and Rebecca Barrow (And Don’t Look Back).”

2pm: Worldbuilding – Creating the Worlds You Love

“From The Time Machine to The Left-Hand of Darkness to The Way of Kings, some of the most enduring stories of all time invite us into wild new worlds that are still recognizable. With painstaking care, these acclaimed writers imagine and develop entirely new creatures, landscapes, and societies in ways that make them believable. With Temi Oh (More Perfect), Ian Green (The Gauntlet and the Fist Beneath), RJ Barker (The Bone Ships), Patrice Lawrence (The Elemental Detectives), Jen Williams (The Ninth Rain) and Claire North (House of Odysseus).

2:45pm: A Beginner’s Guide to Villainy

“Some are born bad, some achieve evil, and some have wickedness thrust upon them. We all have those villains that we love to hate and hate to love, but how do these characters become so compelling? Whether you are a writer, comic artist, DM, local villain looking for some tips or a henchperson considering a career change, all are welcome to this workshop which offers some tips, tricks, and common missteps to try and avoid on your rise to Evil Ruler status. Come to the dark side; come to this workshop!

3pm: Everything You Wanted to Know About Indie Publishing

“Are you ready to publish your book, but you’re not sure where to turn? One option chosen by an ever-increasing number of writers is to self-publish. Join this panel of experts as they discuss the process of, and challenges and opportunities, presented by independent publishing.
